The Magician's Son

EARLY CONCEPTS

The process of making this wasn't easy for me. It felt like trying to swim against the current until I accepted things wouldn't be perfect and I could just go with the flow of the water. In hindsight, that long period of fighting the current was instrumental to my growth as an artist. You can see above how much transformation this piece went through, where each individual step presented unique challenges. From iterating on initial thumbnails, my first sketches, final linework, coloring- it was all so unexpectedly demanding yet transformative. It was particularly challenging to let go of the lines I put down to allow space for new ones. I would get attached to these versions even if I knew they didn't feel right because restarting oftentimes feels daunting. However, learning to trust yourself and the process, despite the uncomfortable moments, is crucial to overcoming creative obstacles and achieving personal growth.

Thank you for visiting Wlyko's home. Now, where is he?
